Teacher Programs
School and Teacher Programs Development
We are currently developing new school and teacher programs to welcome you and your students back when we reopen in Fall 2008. Led by our Guiding Principles of Diversity, Responsiveness, Relevance, Forum, Creativity, and Transparency, we have been consulting directly with teachers, school boards, faculties of education, and professional associations to gather valuable feedback that will make our school and teacher programs meaningful to you and your students.
School Programs
From Kindergarten to Grade 12, our school programs will engage students through gallery and hands-on experiences that are innovative and fun! Inspired by issues found in the AGO collections and feedback from teachers, your students will explore favourite works of art as well as make surprising new discoveries. Linked to the Ontario curriculum, our programs are especially relevant and celebrate the rich diversity and creativity found in each of us! Look for more information coming soon.
Teacher Programs
AGO teacher professional development programs are designed to help in-service and pre-service teachers succeed at teaching and integrating the visual arts into their classrooms. Our teacher programs will focus on techniques teachers can use to facilitate discussion and interpretation of artworks with students, both in the classroom and in the gallery, and provide hands-on artmaking experiences you can bring back to your classroom. Our teacher programs encourage the use of public galleries and museums as valuable resources for learning and discovery.
In Fall 2008, come see for yourself how the AGO has transformed both outside and in! General admission is free at any time for Ontario teachers with valid ID.

Creative Arts Learning Partnership
In partnership with the Creative Arts Learning Partnership, the AGO is pleased to offer a series of three professional development workshops for elementary school teachers from Grades 3 to 8 who are generalists in the visual arts from participating school boards. Based on an experiential model of learning, teachers will learn how to help students develop visual literacy skills and make cross-curricular connections to language and social studies.
Over the course of three workshops, teachers will learn techniques they can use to facilitate discussion and interpretation of artworks with students, and engage in hands-on artmaking experiences led by an artist/educator. The studio component will explore a variety of creative processes and utilize materials that are appropriate and accessible.
